Calculate Size
To calculate the size, simply multiply the length times the width of the room or area to be cooled.
If you’re buying an air conditioner to cool your entire home, you’ll need to repeat this process for each room then add the square meterage together (exclude areas of your home you’re not looking to cool).
Determine AC Size
The output of your air conditioning system should suit the size of your room(s). Even the most expensive unit designed for a 20m² room won’t cool a 50 m² facility.
- 9000btu for areas up to 18m²
- 12000btu for areas up to 25m²
- 18000btu for areas up to 36m²
- 24000btu for areas up to 50m²
- 30000btu for areas up to 60m²
- 36000btu for areas up to 75m²
Determine AC System Type
The output of your air conditioning system should suit the size of your room(s). Even the most expensive unit designed for a 20m² room won’t cool a 50 m² facility.
- Split systems – consist of a single fan coil and single condensing unit. The fan coil unit is installed indoors and the condensing unit is mounted outdoors.
- Multi-Split Systems – the operation scheme is the same as for a regular single split system but you can have up to five indoor units connected to one condensing unit.
- Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems – These systems are available in heat pump or heat recovery models and can connect up to 50 fan coils to one condensing unit. VRF systems are very energy efficient and suited to larger scale applications.
